Are You Best At?
Now, if you haven't read how to improve your chances of winning competitions and the secret of winning prize competitions, go back now, you have to do your research to be a successful comper
There is another one, you have to do your research to be a successful comper, I should write a book, or a website, maybe!
What Are you Good At?
There are many different types of competition, and some of them are more suited to our skills than others.
Some of us like to find out things. We thrive on researching those difficult to find pieces of information. So, if you can Google the question and get a million sources for the answer, the question was too easy.
What you need is the type of question people can't find out easily. How many tiles are there on the floor of Leeds Town Hall? Google that, the answer doesn't leap out of the results, so most folk just give up at that point, it is getting too difficult already.
So, do a bit of research, the answer is probably on one of the sites listed. So it may take you ten minutes to find the answer. Fine, but maybe it isn't on there, even better. Maybe you will have to ring up the Town Hall and ask them.
Maybe they have a call selector with choices, which make it more bother, great? Maybe the person who answers doesn't know and you have to try another number, it just gets better and better.
At the end of all this, there will probably only be about three of you who know how many tiles there are on the floor of Leeds Town Hall, and there are five decent prizes. You are a winner already!
Doing The Things People Don't Like Doing
So, we know people can't be bothered doing research, what else do they not like doing?
Well, these things where you have to put things in order of preference, they don't like them. We do, though, don't we?
Don't just rush at it and put down anything you fancy, there are ways to improve your chances of winning order of preference competitions.
